Hancock earned his bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. With his degree emphasis in Arts Administration, Hancock accepted a marketing position with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra upon graduation. After some time with the ASO, he left to explore other management opportunities in the music industry. He has remained active in the Atlanta music scene as a performing member and teaching assistant in the Emory University Early Music Ensemble and it's later incarnation - Lauda Musicam of Atlanta. Hancock was a founding member of the Sforzandi Chamber Ensemble, and has served as president and music director of the Atlanta chapter of the American Recorder Society. 

As an contemporary composer/arranger, Hancock has created a number of works, both period and modern, for the aforementioned ensembles. His enthusiasm and admiration of Early Music is evidenced in his modern compositions as he often incorporates modal and motivic compositional techniques into his writing.
